Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. Graduate Scholarship Program

The Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. Graduate Scholarship, Singapore Human Resources Development Program – Supported by EDB (“the Scholarship”) is a collaboration between Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (MCI) and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), with the aim of supporting the development of human resources in Singapore and Japan. The Scholarship offers support for Master’s degree program conducted in English at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) under the supervision of distinguished academic advisors. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred with a Master’s degree by Tokyo Tech.

The objective of the Scholarship is to invest in the future by equipping the leaders of tomorrow with tools for success, and to develop capable and talented people adept in working in a global business environment. The scholarship provides a head start for talented individuals to pursue postgraduate studies at a leading university in Japan while acquiring valuable experiences such as an internship opportunity with MCI in Japan during the study period. Upon graduation, scholars will embark on a meaningful career, holding important and challenging jobs in MCI, while contributing to cutting-edge research and technology.

MCI is now offering scholarship opportunities to undergraduates with a passion for Science and Chemistry.

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to undergraduates of all nationalities. Applicants must be full-time undergraduates in their final year of studies, from chemical-related fields in the Science faculty and Engineering faculty of the National University of Singapore (NUS) or Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and are expected to graduate from NUS/NTU in Semester Two of 2012.

Where Tenable, Scholarship Award Period and Value of Scholarship

The Scholarship is tenable at Tokyo Institute of TechnologyOpen New Window, for the full duration of the Master’s degree program and PhD program (subjected to the academic performance, attitude and needs of MCI), which are up to two years and four years respectively.

    The Scholarship covers the following:
  • Monthly stipend of 125,000 JPY (approximately SGD $2,100)
  • Entrance examination fee and admission fee
  • Tuition and examination fees
  • Airfare, land transfers, moving allowance, and baggage allowance from Singapore to Japan to take up studies at Tokyo Tech. In the event that the scholar joins one of MCI Companies in Singapore upon graduation, airfare, land transfers, and moving allowance will be provided from Japan to Singapore.
  • One-off settling-in allowance for purchase of computer, warm clothing, and miscellaneous items before commencement of studies at Tokyo Tech
  • Subsidised accommodation at MCI dormitory with free utilities
  • Other expenses incurred for participation in programs and activities assigned by MCI

Service Commitment / Refund Option

Upon completion of Master’s program, there is a service commitment period of three years.

Upon completion of Master’s program and PhD program, there is a service commitment period of four years.

Upon completion of the Master’s and PhD programs, scholars will be given an option to either fulfill the service commitment period or to pay to MCI the total costs expanded on the scholar.
