Kumho Mitsui Chemicals Receives 2016 Korea Environmental Award

Mitsui Chemicals & SKC Polyurethanes Inc. (Co-CEOs: Ki Don Won & Shingo Shibata; “MCNS”), an equally-owned joint venture of Mitsui Chemicals (Tokyo:4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) and SKC Co., Ltd. (Seoul, Korea; CEO: Wan Jae Lee) announced that its Korean subsidiary, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (CEO: Chan Koo Park; “KMCI”) received the 2016 Korea Environmental Best Award from the Ministry of Environment at a ceremony held at Seoul’ s EL tower on May 20th.

The Korea Environmental Award, held under the auspices of the Korean Ministry of Environment and managed by the Korea Environmental Industry Technology Institute, is presented once a year to major companies and institutions in South Korea which have shown exceptional achievements in environmental management. It aims to promote awareness and recognize outstanding efforts of companies, institutions, and individuals to promote wider disclosure of environmental information and contribute to better social environmental management.

KMCI was presented the award for its following outstanding efforts:

  1. Environment-oriented management : Listed eradication of environment-related accidents as a top priority and implemented preventative measures
  2. Environment pollutant management : Reduced water/steam use, greenhouse gas/air pollutant emissions, and wastewater
  3. Investment for environmental improvements : Invested in environmental improvement measures such as electric power reduction
  4. Environment-friendly products : Developed water foaming methods for building panels which do not use CFCs & bio-MDI for automotive use
  5. Social contribution : Provided guidance to small/medium-sized enterprises in environmental measures & made social contributions to farming and fishing villages

  7. Environment information disclosure : Disclosed information related to abovementioned activities on Korea Environmental Industry Technology Institute’s website
