Low molecular weight polyolefin
- Basic information

- Details of Applications
Hi-WAX comprises a low molecular weight polyethylene (PE) manufactured by direct polymerization, a technique developed by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. on the basis of Ziegler polymerization technology, and low molecular weight polyolefin made by a thermal cracking process.
Hi-WAX is more stable than other synthetic and natural waxes, and a wide variety of grades are commercially available. These grades are therefore used for a broad range of applications, including those in highly technological areas such as toners for plain paper copying and film condensers as well as traditional uses comprising pigment dispersants, slip agents and mold release agents for the molding of various synthetic resins, modifiers for printing ink and paints, and aids for textile treatment, among others.
Each grade of Hi-WAX possesses distinguished characteristics that can function effectively in their proper use.
An assortment of various types of Hi-WAX: High-density polymerization type, low-density polymerization type, acid-value type, acid-modified type, special monomer-modified type, low-density PE-cracked type and PP-cracked type.
Along with properties such as releasability, viscosity adjustment, compatibility, slip properties and surface modification properties, more than 30 grades are opening up possibilities for their use in new fields through the proper use of these properties and grades.
Hi-WAX is very stable compared with natural and synthetic waxes, so our wax is widely applicable to a range of uses in numerous areas.
What is Hi-WAX?
- Solid/semisolid and brittle organic substance at room temperature.
- Low melting point (less than 150℃) and low melt viscosity.
- Crystalline and low molecular weight (300-10,000) resin.
Higher melting and softening points compared with natural and other synthetic waxes
Excellent heat resistance and thermal stability
Excellent chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties.
Good affinity with polar polymers, inorganic chemicals and metals.
Easy to pulverize.
Pigment dispersant, Release agent for injection molding, Abrasion resistance of printing ink, Textile treatment agent, Slip agent for PVC, Release agent for toner.
High hardness and softening point due to high density and crystallinity.
Low density and crystallinity that are attributable to low hardness and softening point.
Good affinity with polar polymers, inorganic chemicals, metals, etc. Emulsifiable (High Acid-value grades).
Reactive with alcohols, amines, isocyanates, oligomer with epoxy group, etc.
Special monomer modified type
Good miscibility with polyethylene and aromatic hydrocarbon resins such as PS, ABS and Polyesters.
Thermally cracking low-density polyethylene type
Extremely low crystallinity. Good miscibility with other resins.
Thermally cracking polypropylene type
Raised softening points and high hardness. Highest melting point.
Classification of Hi-WAX™
Grades and physical properties
Uses, function and recommended grades
Representative Uses, of Hi-WAX™, and Recommended Grades
Add Hi-WAX and pigment to the three-roll-mill to make up color base.
It is possible to manufacture high content color masterbatches because Hi-WAX is compatible with pigment and expresses excellent kneading behavior into the higher shear of the extruder.
Slip agent for PVC
Add PVC powder, stabilizer, calcium, calcium stearate and Hi-WAX to the twin screw extruder.
It is possible to express excellent slip properties and prevent the degradation of PVC because Hi-WAX affects the area between the surface of the molder and melting PVC.
Extrusion: Saving power consumption and increasing productivity.
Injection: Improving the appearance of the molding.
Rigid PVC(Pipes, Fittings), Soft PVC(Wire & Cable, Sheets):220MP, 4202E
Slip Agent for PVC
Release agent for toner
Add binder resin, pigments, CCA (charge control agent) and Hi-WAX to the kneader, then pulverize to make up toner.
It is possible to give anti-offset to a fixing roll because Hi-WAX can be formed as wax lubricant film on the fixing roll.
NP055, NP105, NP505
Release Agent for Toner
Textile treatment agent
Disperse Hi-WAX in hot water to make up wax emulsion. Immerse textiles in the emulsion to attach wax to the surface of the textile, then dry heat.
It is possible to improve high-speed sewing, tear strength and texture.
Sewing improvement:4051E, 4052E
Texrile Treatment Agent
Release agent for injection molding
Add pellets of ABS, PS, etc. and Hi-WAX to the injection molder.
It is possible to express excellent releasability and improve the molding cycle and extrusion properties such as die maintenance.
ABS:200P, 400P, 220MP
